Publix Super Markets, Inc. opened its newest store in the Bradenton area at Lockwood Commons, a Benderson Development-owned shopping center at 4240 53rd Avenue East. Shoppers were welcomed with a Grand Opening ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, October 17. The 45,600-square-foot Publix joins CVS in anchoring Lockwood Commons, the newest retail addition to the fast-growing Lockwood Ridge Road and State Road 70 neighborhood in south Manatee County. Other businesses coming soon to the shopping center include Pet Supermarket, Beef O’Brady’s, Subway, Hair Cuttery, Achieva Credit Union, Purity Cleaners, Sakura Thai Sushi, KT Nails and Lee’s Kitchen. “We’re very excited to have Publix leading the line-up at Lockwood Commons,” said Mark Chait, Executive Director of Leasing for Benderson Development. “Residential development continues to grow exponentially in the area, and neighboring communities have long been underserved by first-rate retailers. These communities will now have a state-of-the-art grocery store, as well as restaurants and essential services, right at their front door,” Chait said. Founded in 1930, Publix is the largest employee-owned supermarket chain in the United States. The chain currently employs more than 160,000 and has more than 1,000 locations in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee.
